Good point on going with classes, instead of an outright ban on planes. I'm still in with the C185, but I would like to add the FSX Carenado C 152 II also: www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/us/iboshop.cgi?showd,6383282380,D10870, this could be another alternative if the 185 does get banned. It's a slightly better-at-takeoff (imo) version of the 182, although it takes some serious slow-building of altitude to get up to clear those mountains between Concrete and Darrington. It's certainly not the fastest plane offered up here, but fun to fly. I just think it takes more of a better pounding than the Pipers do. As far as some of the other planes suggested here: That C195 you guys linked here is awesome in itself. A very nice freeware package for both FS9 and FSX, with a float plane included. The more I fly it, the more I like it. I'm not sure if I like it enough to spend 23 bucks on a payware version of it though. The Pipers, but mainly the PA20, great planes for getting over the mountains, plus they're all fun to fly in the bush also. It's nothing personal against them, I just have too many problems overstressing them. The Helio seems alright too, but I need more time in it before passing judgment. It landed OK for me though.

+1 Personally, I'm in favor of using Brent's modified FDEs (link available once I find where I put it), if for no other reason than it makes the 185 more of a challenge, both on the ground and in the air. From the moment I got the 185, even before grabbing the Bush expansion, I was solidly hooked. Toss in the Bush pack and Brent's mod, and the thing just has that "feel" about her!

Make/Model: Cessna 195 MSFS Version: Both Payware/Freeware: Both Vendor: Joe Binka (Free) Wow ! That bird is FAST. 175 kts (at 2000 ft, right at the barberpole) And climbs at 3000 fpm/120 kts. Pretty nice btw. And has character. I'm quite liking it. Needs some getting used to to fly. I think at some point (we can see how it goes for now) we'll really need some means by which to level competitiveness of different planes, otherwise it will be a scramble for the fastest one, not necessarily the nicest one.
Check whether that ASI isn't indicating 128 MPH
oops! yes that does sound right. I must need glasses. I'm getting old! I too aggree prb. The only reason a plane should be banned is for being unrealistic flight model. 12 people is a good start. The event has to grow over time. I wouldn't want people turning off before they start because their favourite plane is banned.

Make/Model: WSK-PZL Mielec AN-2T MSFS: FS9 Freeware Vendor: Tim ("Piglet") Conrad Link: www.flightsim.com (Search for an2tppp.zip) From the "Readme": First appearing in 1947, the Antonov AN-2 was first dismissed as obsolete, due to its biplane layout and homely looks. But the "Annushka" would prove the naysayers wrong...and how! The biplane layout proved itself, and there wasn't much the AN2 couldn't do, whether as a passenger, cargo, parachuting, crop spraying, or spec ops plane. Over 20,000 were produced, mostly in Poland. Not bad foran "obsolete" design."

I see that Just Flight has a sale running on this plane, and others. It is here: www.justflight.com/bundle Unfortunately, the sale ends tonight. I wanted the Kodiak, so I just threw this Piper Pacer in with it. It's a good time for me to do Pipers anyways -I need to practice more flying in fabric-wrapped planes. It seems like a good deal. It's nice to get the Kodiak (that also comes with a FS9 version) along with the Piper for one low price. Both come with many different models and variations. Hangar expansion is always a good thing. The Kodiak is as awesome as a plane as I read about and expected, it's way nicer than my DHC-6 Canadian imo. The Piper looks good from what I seen so far. Either way (at that 2 for 1 price), it seems like they're both great additions for bush flying. So this offer was a 'no-brainer' to me. Thank you for mentioning the Piper, Paul. Much appreciated.

You're welcome, bushflyer! I'm not generally a "fabric coverd" type either, being more into P-38s and such Lionheart's Piper is great, though, for when I get the urge for going low and slow! I have the Kodiak too, and I like it. - Paul

I would pretty much only be using the Carenado 185 with Bernt Stolle's fix applied, I really like the idea of a handicap system that effectively levels the playing field and voted accordingly.

Excellent discussion so far and I will add the A2A Piper Cub to the mix now that we are going on a handicap system. I do like the way the handicap is being computed as of now. Make/Model: A2A J-3 Piper Cub MSFS Version: (FS9, FSX, or Works in Both) FSX Payware/Freeware: Payware Vendor: A2A Simulations Download link or vendors site: www.a2asimulations.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=36JimmyH

While trying to make up my mind which sim version and plane to fly so I could register for this month I was a bit too keen and thought I'd overclock my graphics card a 'wee bit'.
Well I went and cooked it and am now trying to get FS9 installed in my sons old P4 with onboard graphics.
It may end up being the default Cessna Piper Cub for me. I will make my registration as soon as I know what I can do and if she'll run any addons without a slide show. somehow I doubt it. If I can get it to run a default set up and the Duenna I will be happy for now.
Well I did have FSX going rather nicely for nearly an hour before the screen went black! I may have to get a new (2nd hand i7) sooner than I had planned after all. Even if just another AGP card is more likely, dreams are free right?
I'll have to see if I am in a position to get a loan. I'm trying to remain positive and rather than bum out that I was too much of an eager beaver. I will console myself with thoughts of a new machine, and try not to freak out too much about just how I will pay for it!
With winter fast approaching here in NZ the thought of having no FS over winter is just not an option really for my peace of mind and quality of life!

I am up and running again and registered as codge flying the 5B1(206 StationAir) in FS9. I accidently put 165 in the code box instead so it has come up as invalid aircraft.
I re-did the rego,it accepted but didn't change in the list.
So, please can someone with the ability to fix it for me. Thank you in advance.

Hello!
I am trying to make the test with the Katana 4X but is imposible. The plane even if put unilimited fuel and auto mixture options to on, putting the fuel to 0% don't let me start it. Neither with control+e. So it is imposible to me to try it.
But I would like to fly the plane in the races if it is possible.
Another candidate would be the A2A piper with accusim, but I still don't have it (if it would be possible I would buy it). Saw in the forum that someone post it, but I don't find it (nor the Katana 4X) in the list of planes possible to use in april race.
Is is possible to use both (any of them, Katana 4X more desirable to me), how?

Neither with control+e. So it is imposible to me to try it. But I would like to fly the plane in the races if it is possible. In my understanding it's definitely not too late to join. Anyone can join until the end of the month for this course. And also join next month or later. Just won't be able to fly the previous months' courses, so gain no point for these for the season-end big tally. With the Katana's complex system modeling starting the engine with an empty tank seems to be inhibited. Jimmy has the final word here, but I'd say just put 5 gal into the tank and run the test flight with that. That amount of fuel weight should have no significant impact on the flight speed. The A2A Cub is definitely allowed. It is added to the list now. Anyone wanting to fly it just has to submit flight test data for the model selected (and indicate whether Accusim is used or not - not sure whether that has any impact on flight performance or not, but better be sure).
