Completed leg 1. It was a dark and stormy morning. Made it through Shenanigan's Pass, right next to King Cove, then zigged left for Amatuli Cove. I opted for the East Group of islands, just because I found a nice beach to land on, even though the flight plan appears to suggest the West Group. Hope that's ok. Besides, Plan-G has the label "Amatuli Cove" on the east group too... fs-duenna.com/flights/ShowFlight.php?detail=flight&value=iiMzQywQiBEln5m8NlO9Tu76I7cWill upload pics shortly... - Paul

Yeah, any island in that group is ok. The advantage of the western ones is that they're closer to the next waypoint — which might save you some time; and the advantage of the eastern ones is that they have bigger beaches — which might save your life... BTW, it looks like you still got the practice course selected as the Duenna event. Could you perhaps update that to "BPRL 2013 Race"? That way our races will be easier to group and find.

Rgr on the duenna event picker. I'll fix that. Here's some kodaks of leg 1, plus the "evidence" pics.

Some pics from the flight to Swikshak. Hugged the coastline, obviously, as the hills inland were probably higher than 1000 feet. Just guessing...

Glad to see ya. I been waiting here for the weather to change but it does not look like it will anytime soon.

I been waiting here for the weather to change but it does not look like it will anytime soon. Don't hold your breath, waiting for the weather to change — it's not gonna happen. What you see is what you get... The weather that is delivered by the in-game "real-world" weather has been static for about 2 months now. It is the same every day, and bears no relation to the actual, current weather anymore (unless by chance). It could, of course, happen that at some point MS/Jeppesen will "reboot" the whole weather delivery system, and it will deliver current weather again, but for now it's the same all the time. (That's why we switched to the in-game weather — as it is some static, historical weather, it is the same for everyone, no matter when they fly, so any advantages or disadvantages caused by the weather will be removed.)

Hi Dave, good to see you here too! I'm confused about the weather issue. In the rules update thread you said that “now we're using in-game 'real world weather, 15-min updates'”. But here you said that the “weather that is delivered by the in-game "real-world" weather has been static for about 2 months now” so we're not using it, but some static weather. Which one? Clear? Fair weather? Well, on to business. I made it to the island in the middle of the lake, but I busted the 2500 foot altitude restriction. I had it all mapped too. I found a route through the mountains below 2500 feet. I scouted the route in clear weather, however, and today I got lost in the clouds and a made a wrong turn down “Dead Man's Canyon”. I knew I had to make a hard left turn to get over the ridge and into the “right” canyon. For a moment I thought I'd be able to salvage the 2500 feet limit, but there was no way... Oh well. Didn't crash... - Paul fs-duenna.com/flights/ShowFlight.php?detail=flight&value=2OC7ye8bpV9Bkmurv8NqqTPuU

Fair weather? The thing with the FS/Jeppesen weather (the "real-world weather") right now is that is ALWAYS delivers the same weather (from some date about 2 months ago). So, while you are technically selecting "real-world weather" what you actually get is some static, historic weather that is the same every day. The advantage of using this weather option over some static theme is that it's a bit more varied and realistic, while still giving everybody the same situation.

Thanks Kris.
I guess my confusion stems from what you said a couple of posts above: "That's why we switched to the in-game weather..." Switched from what? "In game real world weather" is what I've always been using, with 15-minue updates checked. It sounds like you're saying we're switching to in game real world weather, even though it never updates, from something else that we were supposed to be using before...

Yes, even though that was the "official" rule all along, a lot of people were using external weather programs, as they were more reliable, or looked nicer. But if somebody were to use a third-party weather program now, he would get very different weather from everybody else, so that's why I wanted to emphasize that we should *only* use the in-game weather now.
