The league needs to develop a white list of approved racing aircraft. Aircraft are restricted to single engine, piston-driven, normally-aspirated (non-turbo) aircraft, typically found in "bush" operations.

Make/Model: Maule Orion MSFS Version: FSX (im sure it is available for FS9 as well) Payware/Freeware: Included in default FSX install Vendor: Microsoft Download link or vendors site: Included in FSX install
So that I do not make a separate entry, I would also like the A2A Piper Cub...but in this race it stands no chance.

Oh well ;( I do like the Carenado T210 for FSX. I was lucky enough to get near a real one many years ago It would get used as a freighter if an over hauled engine was way late in being delivered to the customer. My job was to remove the back 4 seats and load the engine into the 210.
ZK-FMG was a rebuild after being imported to NZ in pieces inside a shipping container after it had done a wheels up landing somewhere in the USA to collect insurance so the story went!
It had a 'new' engine fitted by us, Aeromotive Overhauls, and was given a two blade prop which was just fine. However potential buyers knew it originally had a 3 blader as standard and didn't like the fact that this only had a two blade. The only difference being that the 3 blader run a bit quieter. No increase in performance at all according to the boss, and owner, seller. Was he talking sales to me instead of engineering? Who knows?
It sure was a beauty. It did an honest 200 knots with that new engine and no wind assistance all the way from Hamilton to Christchurch, a 2hr odd flight. We took off right after a Fokker Friendship and got to CHCH 5 mins before them. Reason is they stopped in Wellington to collect more people and stuff!
6 cyl, fuel injected, turbo charged and super charged. Variable pitch prop. retractable undercarriage and no wing struts for a nice clean fuselage. i just loved it and only having logged 3 hours in a C152 before I thought I was pretty cool! Brian the boss would take me along as his right seater and I was allowed to fly it untill it became obvious I needed him to take it over.
I do fully appreciate why it is not on the white list and am not complaining about it, I'm just reminiscing over some old fond memories of my youth!

Sorry folks, I'm just learning my way around this new forum and will stay on topic in the right places instead of rambling on in the wrong place!
In FSX I have an ACA Scout standard or a Decathalon which are Citabria. Also I have a Flight Replicas super cub that includes some 150HP versions, 160HP and there's a 180HP one too and even a 210 HP experimental one..
While I think the Carenado 185F either the FSX one or the FS9 one with the big tundra tyres are going to be hard to beat since they are powerful 6 cyl engines compared to the others and they take off after a very short roll.
However, the course designers can find places i'm sure where a Maule or Cub, Super Cub or Scout Citabria will be a better choice.
The officals will have a hard time to make this an equal opportunity for the old payware versus freeware thing.
I DLed and installed that Aviat plane and remembered my Scout and other FSX planes. I usually fly FS9 because of my old computer specs and have to have sliders in less that optimum places in FSX. But it does work and i'll use it if I have to.
At present my sim crashes in FS9 if I try to start a flight at WA56 or in that area. I must have an issue with my mesh or something. I will likely do a whole reinstall of not only FS9 but also Windows XP itself and spend the days and aggravation of a reinstall. i used to do one every year but have gotten a bit slack in recent times and it could be as long as 3 years or more now since I did my last one.

Since it is a race and after spending the afternoon testing planes I find that anything less than the Carenado C185F in FSX is very slow. The FS9 version is the same but with tundra tyres. And with a requirement to get up to 5000ft quickly it is no contest which plane to choose- unless of course i'm missing something?
No 4 cyl plane can compete. Whether we will have to carry a decent cargo to compensate or if you even ban this plane is going to be a tough call.
Unless we all have it of course, then we are all on a level field. That may be best if it about pilot skill rather than just having the fastest plane.
A good headache for the committee!

I'm fine with FSX in my machine as long as I stay away from major airports and especially aren't flying a big jet that has an FMC. Then I too get the draeded slideshow on final approach-no fun at all.
The very reason why the BPRL is perfect for me.
I just flew the C185F on the second practise leg and loaded it up to 9lb overweight and while alot slower up to 5000ft it would still be my choice right now.
Do we want a race that if you don't have that aircraft you don't stand a chance? I too love the twotter, the beaver and all those traditional bushplanes, that are not fast but were never meant to be, it was their payload and STOL that made them great.
But as it is right now the Carenado C185F is the only fast bush plane I know about. It will be good for more pilots to post here about what they have and/or want to fly.
If they don't and the C185F is not banned the 11 signed up may drop for those that don't have this plane. I don't want it banned, I love it BTW.
Yes, Washington state and Montana is a great place to fly. I was at one time doing the helo thing at hovercontrol, which is all flying in that area. I do much prefer bush flying of any type over the big heavies fly by numbers aircraft- although I do enjoy it, just not for too long.
Real stick and rudder, no auto anything and your wits is far more fun.

Good inputs on the aircraft... definitely need to strike a balance between what CAN be flown and what SHOULD be flown. The intent is to have a variety of aircraft that can compete with each other, to allow as much freedom of choice for the racer as possible. Options (off the top of my head are: banning the 185, having specific aircraft designated each race, limiting the aircraft white list to a maximum speed... Maybe some sort of handicap option, like they do in road ralliess: you're score is based on "closest to a given time", not fastest time, which would put the A2A Cub on the same footing as the 185?? But, I have no idea what those numbers would look like. I'm hoping this league grows to a point where it's governed by a committee of league members... at the moment, it's a one-man show (me) and just the two of you actively participating in any discussion. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not that familiar with a large number of aircraft... I've spent the last 10 years in pretty much 4 airframes: the Maule M-7, the Aviat Husky, the Carenado 185, and the Carenado 206.

Hi Jimmy, Stephen and all, Just a quick question for now. I'll post intro later. What is cruise speed of the Carenado C185 and C185bush ? (Kts/alt) I'm planning to use the Crenado C182Q which cruises at 155 KTAS at low level, and the FS9 C182S is not much slower. While certainly slower than the C185, still hope to have a chance with the C182. With the short legs and routing/terrain it should be possible to compensate speed to a certain extent by skillful flying. As said, I've no idea about the C185 speed though. Btw, I get an error when trying to access fs-duenna.com/flights/ListFlights.php?detail=last&value="Fatal error: Cannot redeclare date_diff() in /home/fsduenna/public_html/flights/inc_math.php on line 183 " Do you also have the same issue ?

Getting up to 5000ft quickly and then riding the barber pole at just under 200kt to the rwy is what the C185F does the best. It will overspeed at 205 or so and you overstress.
That is despite the VNE of 180. That is just Cessna being safety concious!
Also being a taildragger it deals with short strips better. The retractable gear in the 182 is not much of a trade for 2 extra cyl.
Interesting question though because it reminds me if you breed those two planes you get the C210 but with a turbo as well which are banned here!
These are the headaches that the committee was always going to have! Will they have to run more than one class maybe a 4cyl one and a 6cyl one?

Make/Model: Cessna 182S MSFS Version: (FS9, FSX, or Works in Both): FS9 Payware/Freeware: FS9 default aircraft
Level full throttle flight speed at low altitude about 141 kts (IIRC).
Edit: I checked my notes - max cruise speed is 141 kts, not 148 kts as stated previously.

Teson, that 182 is a great choice too, on either platform. Will it be able to handle those beach landings though? I had no issue getting it down on the beach at the Skagit circuit, and I've banged it down pretty hard on some of the other landings. I don't think this is an issue.
