Starting another run (out of competition) with the FS9 Piper J-3 Cub with Alex Metzger FDE (82 KTAS @ 2000 ft). Unfortunately without the FDE update the plane is just unlandable in the slightest crosswind.

Heh... I had actually considered doing this race with the Cub as well, as I figured this course might be ideal for a slower plane. But I was never able to reach the rated speeds in FSX, and didn't want to go through the whole "classification" routine again, so I gave up on that plan.
But considering your experiences with it, I guess it's a good thing I stuck with my old, reliable 185! After all, no matter how fast something is in theory (or even during the race), you still gotta get it safely on the ground at the end. And if part doesn't work, then all the speed in the world isn't gonna do you any good! Your very promising race time, with the then disappointing crash landing reminded me of a saying they have in racing: "In order to finish first, you first got to finish." So true — even when it comes to flying.

No need to hold back from flying the cub. Crashing was entirely my fault as I had tried to force it down by brute force and clipped the top of a tree doing so. No issue with the plane. With the Alex Metzger FDE it lands perfectly well, unless the default Cub even a slight crosswind will groundloop (with full realism settings).
